blue in heaven (hannett production: 1985)
in spite of most of the reviews i've read (trouser press, rough guide), hannett's production of "all the gods' men" isn't the doom and gloomfest that muddied the sound of an otherwise brilliant pop band. indeed, blue in heaven were a rather unremarkable outfit, oft (and not unjustly) overlooked. it would be hard to name a standout from the one record hannett produced for the band, but then, it would be hard to name a standout afterwards as well. "in your eyes" comes to mind as a nearly effective collaboration: hannett's atmospherics rescue what would have otherwise been a banal pop tune. in all, a forgettable record by a forgettable band.
